Durham Muslims Community runs worship, education and community activities for Muslims across the County of Durham, throughout the year.
Jumu’ah prayers
We hold congregational Friday prayers every week, open to everyone. Jumu’ah is the anchor of our week and the main point of contact for Muslims who are new to Durham, including students arriving each term.
Ramadan programme
Throughout the month of Ramadan we run a full programme of activities: nightly Taraweeh prayers, community iftars where families and students break their fast together, and talks and reminders through the month.
Eid prayers and celebrations
We organise Eid prayers and family celebrations for both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. These are among the largest gatherings of Muslims in Durham each year and are open to the whole community.
Community engagement
We bring the community together through social and educational events, support newcomers and students settling in Durham, and build relationships with neighbours, the university and other faith and community groups in the county.
The community centre project
All of these activities currently run in borrowed and hired spaces. We are raising funds to establish a permanent Mosque and Islamic Community Centre in Durham so that the community has a home of its own. Find out how you can support the project.
